What: "The point is a gun muffler is like a automobile silencer. The gun muffler reduces muzzle blast noise and does nothing for action, bullet flight or impact noise just as a car silencer only reduces exhaust noise and does nothing for wind, engine, transmission or tire noise. I only use a silencer for reducing muzzle blast noise. If I want to reduce bullet flight noise then I will use subsonic ammo and a small bullet. Big bullets like 44 caliber and above make a very audible humming noise even when subsonic. If I want to reduce impact noise then i shoot a soft target like dirt and not steel."
